CUSTOMER USE CASES

Everforth ECS successfully migrated 50+ applications for the United States Marine Corp (USMC)

SOLUTION

Everforth ECS worked with the USMC to execute its cloud adoption strategy and migrate applications to Amazon Web Services (AWS). To accomplish this, Everforth ECS followed its Common Cloud Framework approach to cloud migrations. This approach defines 4 phases to cloud migrations: Discover, Design, Build, and Transition.

During the Discover phase, Everforth ECS worked with key stakeholders to identify and understand the Business, Platform, People, Governance, Operations, and Security requirements for the applications and infrastructure. Through this discovery phase, Everforth ECS created a migration readiness assessment and roadmap for migrating to AWS.

In the Design phase, Everforth ECS developed target architectures based on Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Secured Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA), the AWS Well-Architected Framework, and USMC requirements. These target architectures meet the complex Department of Defense (DoD) security and compliance requirements while introducing AWS Well-Architected Framework guidance to create highly-available, operationally efficient, and cost optimized environments for USMC. Everforth ECS utilized AWS services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and its components, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) in its designs.

During the Build phase, Everforth ECS deployed the target architectures via AWS CloudFormation, established network connectivity, and further configured AWS services to meet USMC requirements. Once completed, Everforth ECS established data replication between the on-premises environments and the new AWS environments. Initial testing was conducted during this phase to ensure the applications and environments meet USMC requirements.

In the Transition phase, Everforth ECS executed the migration plan to cutover to the AWS environment. This included the steps required to “go live” in AWS as well as beginning the production operations and maintenance of the new environment.

BENEFITS

Everforth ECS has designed, built, and transitioned the USMC to a secure, highly-available, cost-effective, and operationally efficient production AWS environment. Through this, the USMC can leverage new AWS cloud services to continue modernizing its IT and application infrastructure to meet its future warfighting needs.

Everforth ECS delivered Blackboard's application portfolio from on-premises to the cloud on time and under budget

two arrows going up a mountain

CHALLENGE

As the leading provider of education software and services, Blackboard Inc. sought to modernize its application and services portfolio through the adoption of the public cloud while reducing enterprise IT costs through the closure and consolidation of many of its physical data centers.

SOLUTION

Everforth ECS worked with the Blackboard to develop and execute a cloud adoption strategy and migrate applications to Amazon Web Services (AWS). To accomplish this, Everforth ECS  followed its Common Cloud Framework approach to cloud migrations. This approach defines 4 phases to cloud migrations: Discover, Design, Build, and Transition.

During the Discover phase, Everforth ECS worked with key stakeholders to identify and understand the Business, Platform, People, Governance, Operations, and Security requirements for Blackboard’s applications and infrastructure. Everforth ECS reviewed each Blackboard data center to determine application and infrastructure requirements as well as data center closure dates to develop migration timelines.

In the Design phase, Everforth ECS developed target architectures for an enterprise shared services environment, hybrid networking between Blackboard’s on-premises environments and the new AWS environments, and standard application architectures. Everforth ECS utilized AWS services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and its components, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), AWS Direct Connect, AWS ElasticSearch, Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Lambda, and Amazon Simple Notification System (SNS) in its designs.

During the Build phase, Everforth ECS deployed the target architectures via AWS CloudFormation, established network connectivity, and further configured AWS services to meet Blackboard’s requirements. Everforth ECS utilized CloudEndure for data replication between Blackboard’s on-premises environments and AWS. CloudEndure utilizes block-level replication of server storage to enable forklift migrations. With CloudEndure, Everforth ECS orchestrated low RTO and RPO migration cutovers. Each application was tested for performance, functionality, and reliability.

In the Transition phase, Everforth ECS executed the migration plan to cut over to the AWS environment. This included the steps required to “go live” in AWS as well as beginning the production operations and maintenance of the new environment. This included network and DNS cutover as well as final data synchronization between the on-premises environments and AWS.

BENEFITS

Everforth ECS has designed, built, and transitioned Blackboard to a new enterprise AWS environment that enabled further modernization and adoption of AWS cloud services. This environment met Blackboard’s goals of cost efficiency through consolidation of enterprise services and physical data center closures.

Migrating L3Harris Workloads to the cloud resulting in cost savings

two arrows going up a mountain

CHALLENGE

L3Harris required support moving disparate L3 divisions from the current ISP/IaaS/PaaS solution provider to a consolidated solution. The scope included more various division websites to be continuously migrated as other corporate websites are running in the cloud.
Light-bulb with lines around

SOLUTION

The solution included deployment of various AWS components, such as EC2 instances, multi-AZ RDS, S3 for storage, and CloudFront for secure data delivery across the world. These components aligned with customer requirements and met the standard for best practices as defined in the AWS Well Architected Framework.

BENEFITS

Over 90+ websites are now hosted on a unified architecture in AWS us-east-1. As each website became available for migration, L3HARRIS and Everforth ECS were able to do so with no impact to the existing workloads.
